With Pierlorenzo, the Bassetti Company is reborn by
returning to its origins. A versatile character, Pierlorenzo is specialised in
researching the most avantgarde weaving materials, ranging from the natural
ones, to the presently trendy painted leather, and other lacquered materials. “A
garment’s soul is undoubtedly its fabric, and research in materials has become
my philosophy of life. I am profoundly motivated to modernise my family’s
glorious company in stylistic terms. I live
surrounded by fabric, colour and craftmanship. I adore music and art, which I
consider the source of my inspiration”.
From 1953 to today, the Bassetti family has been
promoting the culture of textiles in Rome.
Founded by his father Antonio Bassetti, and
grandfather Lorenzo Bassetti, at their very first Botteghe Oscure studio, the Company
has always been primarily focused on quality fabrics.
The Company has traditionally been commissioned with
the creation of stage costume,s by popular international theatre and cinema
productions.
Moreover, its use of the widest range of weave and
fabric, turned it into a point of reference for the fashion schools.
The history that made the Bassetti Company an
unchallenged leader in the fashion worl,d continues with Pierlorenzo and his
entrepreneurial ideas.
He turned his passion into work: “I decided to invest on myself. I did it with extreme courage and
determination. During a very tough period for business, I opened an activity
that is involved with textile art and research. I hope to make streasure of my
father Antonio’s teachings, as well as those of my grandfather.
I
want to explore my own personal path with the same passion and continue our
family tradition. But I also want it to be open to new market challenges, as
well as to the on-going competition with other stylists”.
Is it rarity and luxury that clients go for, when they
choose a particular fabric? Pierlorenzo Bassetti Textile’s own clients, share
their search for beauty: nowadays the market has evolved.
“Clients are
conscious of their purchases and quite demanding. Though an accurate selection
of materials that is focused on satisfying our many categories of buyers, I
personally strive on a daily basis to make sure that all requests are met. With
our private clients, we operate on a trust basis. Many listen carefully to our
advice because they trust my opinion completely.
As
for stylists and fashion designers, I always present them with exclusive and
diverse material, whilst building some kind of synergic relationship. This
involves sticking to their taste but also participating in the creative process”.
The characteristics of fabrics for the high fashion
industry are infinite.
They are determined by value, originality and above
all by the distinctive traits of the materials that designers want to deploy to
complete their collection.
Elegant fabric can be worked on and manipulated
differently, according to the different hands that may bring life out of it.
Dressmakers love sophisticated and sought-after
fabric. They love fabric created with precious fibres that empower inspiration
driven cloth making with strong personality and originality.
Fashion rapidly moves on, and present research pushed
the industry towards an eco-friendly production system.
“What we wear
stands for a primary need that motivates us to join our body into contact with
textile products. Technological progress fulfills the needs of the relationship
between textile products and health.
Textile
Companies have a wonderful opportunity to support production improvements, and
contribute to new requirements and areas of the market. It is now possible to
obtain natural fibres and respect the environment and humans, like for instance
rose fibres, cotton and bamboo. These natural fibres, take care of our safety
and comfort.
It
is not by chance that eco sustainability consciousness, is on the increase. It
is a shame, that such derived products have prohibitive costs. This is the
reason why only a niche audience can presently afford them”.
Via delle Botteghe Oscure 44 is not just concerned
with selling. It is also an Artistic Project: “My experience with fashion inspired me to open this space to increase
opportunities for my textile proposals. I mainly wanted to create
some
synergy with the new fashion talents and practice collaboration and
experimentation".
